Now the scent lingers, no matter how many times I boil water in the pan to remove the scent. Does anyone know of a magic potion that will react chemically to pull out that scent ? The wax is gone of course, but the scent permeates anything I cook !

When melting candle wax one should always use an old pan. One that can be thrown away is best. Everyone who has answered “buy a new pan” is giving you the best answer.
There is a candle wax remover (link below), but it may not be advisable to use it in a cooking pan. It may leave other chemicals behind as noxious as the scented wax.

Throw away the pan or only use it for scented oils. The oils have worked their way into your pan and call it home. It has in a way seasoned your pan. Not likely to remove easily if at all. It can also be dangerous to eat anything you’ve cooked in it. Get a new pan!

Get some unscented beeswax and boil it in the pan. The wax will attach to the other wax and pull it out. Make sure you wipe it with a cloth while it’s still hot after dumping the wax out. This should work.

Try cutting a few slices of lemon and fry them!
