hereditary witchcraft; folk magic?

I am working on a story about a woman who uses “magic” to help people but doesn’t call it that- folk magic and family traditions and so forth. I guess this would include things like use of tea, candle lighting perhaps, music, animal “whispering” and I’m not sure what else. any advice or rescources would help. This is going to be “magical realism” or Natural Magic, not “supernatural” or fantasy magic, so I need to carefully research this topic. Thanks for your help.

Stuff like the evil eye and other things sometimes considered “superstition” would also be included here- charms, talismans, good luck and protective tokens etc…
I am not asking for secrets. I am only asking for suggestions about the types of things that would fit into what I am trying to write and where to find more info about it. For example, evil eye protection charms– they are very popular and well known in certain parts of the world, as are the ways to transmit and/or avoid receiving the evil eye. Also, the effects of the evil eye are well known in these cultures. Again, I am NOT asking anyone to give away secrets. I hope you all understand:)

Is witchcraft black/white magic real?

When I say witchcraft I don’t mean turn me into a cat magic. I’m talking about the use of black/white magic.

My mom has a uncle back in her home country who practices white magic. Who has “helped” alot of people in her small town. There is alot of stories she told me before that sound convincing as he is a wizard witch or something.. I can share if you guys like.

But any who my mom hasn’t had any contact with him in like 10 years. In that period of time my mom and dad divorced, she had 1 serious boyfriend which she broke up with, and is now living with a current boyfriend of 3 years which they may get married. HER UNCLE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE DIVORCE. but like 2 months ago my mom got a bad infection and she started getting blister like bumps on her body after she cured that she started getting bed bug like bites but we had no bed bugs. She thought it was kinda weird and according to her they tried doing black magic on her before so she called her uncle.

Her Uncle said he will call back during a week, he called 3 days later said that he see 25 candles and a Saint Death candle in the middle, in other words someone’s trying to kill her. Her uncle told her to wear a star of david on the side of her heart and this weird satanic looking cross for protection while he tries looking more into it.

2 days later which is today he called, said that he sees my mom and dad divorced. He said he sees a short dark guy with a short women doing this to her, and since they know shes “protecting” herself they now have 45 candles on her. He latterly described my moms ex boyfriend and his current girlfriend AND HE DOESN’T EVEN LIVE IN THE US!!!

He told us he will call back tomorrow with more info. WTF I dont believe in this but its getting kind of creepy.
He said the blisters were from the firee of the candles.

Share with me what works the best for you? I have been practicing for about a year and I really have only accomplished candle magic. Meditating is really hard for me, Its hard for me to get my mind completely clear unless I am taking a hot bath or I am lying in bed.

So what works best for you? what do you prefer?
