Sometimes it is helpful to have a focus when casting a spell. Candle magic simply means using a candle as a magical focus. It works by “charging” a candle with a magical purpose, that is, telling the candle what you want it to do and filling it with your intent. I find it best to use candles when you want to invoke the sympathy of what a candle is – light giving, purifying fire. I mostly use a candle to bring light to darkness (literally and figuratively!), when welcoming good luck and expelling bad vibes. Candle magic is most useful when you want to delay a spell or make it for another person. For example, a candle charged with protection will be effective as long as it burns. This is because the energy is released when the candle burns. Thus, you can let it burn down, or blow it out and use it over a period of several days. To speed up the process, some witches used to insert a needle into the candle. The spell would then be triggered when the candle burned down to the needle.
How you use your candle depends on what kind of witch you are. Some people like to use special oils to anoints their candles, others inscribe the candle with words or sigils. You can use different coloured candles that reflect the goal of the spell – blue for protection, black for banishing negativity etc, but as long as you know what you want to achieve, a plain white dinner candle will do just as well. Always be careful that you are sure of what you want and that your intentions are pure before doing any magic – unless you really want to get your fingers burned!
There are lots of books on candle magic but I would be wary of anything that sounds too complicated. At its heart, candle magic is a simple technique. I saw a book once where the ritual involved lighting around twenty candles in a specific order. We worked out that this was physically impossible without reaching over lit candles and burning your arm!

In magic candles are routinely used to aid in various spells and incantations. The candle magic you are probably referring to is when candles are made with certain ingredients to effect something specific. You can buy these candles from your local occult shop. But the best way is to make them yourself. If you are not Wiccan, I suggest you avoid magic. This is something very sacred to witches and you could have an adverse reaction. My suggestion would be to join a coven and learn from them.

Candle magic is simply the use of candles as the main focus tool of a spell. You use a candle with a color that matches the goal you have in mind. Look up the references of others, but stick to what works in your mind.
Good books to read on the subject:
“Practical Candle Burning Rituals” and “Advanced Candle Magic” by Raymond Buckland
“A Little Book of Candle Magic” by DJ Conway.

Candle magick is where different colors represent different things, and the person annoints the candles with essential or other fragrant oils. As thecandle burns (usually an hour at a time) the color and fragrance wirk to cause what you want to happen.
Raymond Buckand wrots a book or two about candle magick.
I neither need or use candles in the magick that I do.
All I do is deep breathing to accumulate a surcharge of lifeforce energy (often called ch’i, mana, prana, etc) and direct the energy with my mind.

Candles as Tools of Magick
Select four candles in colours representing the four elements. Try using red for Fire, brown for Earth, blue for Water and white for Air.
Anoint the candles with oil. Decide on your goal or request and which candle is best for represents the need. (ie money, business, material objects, grounding matters would be Earth. Matters of sex, breaking habits, purification, protection, strength would be Fire. Matters of love, psychic awareness, healing, friendships, beauty, spirituality,
meditation would be Water. Matters of movement, travel,
communication, teachings would be Air.) Place three candles in a triangle and put the assigned candle in the centre.
Meditate on your desire as you light all four candles. Visualize the outcome, concentrating carefully on that which you wish to happen. Let all candles burn go out by themselves. For best results, do this candle burning during the hour of the day that will aide you and during the correct Moon phases. The Waning Moon is good for banishing, the Waxing will help things grow.
Above all use extreme care when doing ANY form of Magick that entails the use of Fire.
