Most people understand something different when the word ‘magic’ is uttered.
To an abrahamic religion believer, magic would connote the acquisition of power through the means of contacting spirits and other creatures, to change or otherwise alter someones fate/lifestyle.
While for a new age person, thinking of good thoughts with some candle light is magic too.
What is magic? Why is it different in so many settings?

To paraphrase Alistair Crowley: Magic is the art of effecting change in accordance with will. Psychologists might call it “positive reinforcement”. Other religious types would call it prayer.

Magic is making people believe that books like the bible, quran and others were inspired by god and are free of error.

magic is nothing more than coinencedences that people choose not to understand

Arthur C. Clarke: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
Robert Heinlein: “One man’s ‘magic’ is another man’s engineering.”
Or magic is simply deceptive, using sleight-of-hand or distraction to call attention to something inocuous while the magician does his “trick” unnoticed.
In other words, there is no real magic.

It’s the combination of your own energy and the energies of Nature directed in a manner that brings about the change you will. And it’s magicK.
    and it’s Aleister not Alistair.

In my opinion, magick is the practice of using the energy around and within us to cause some sort of change. It’s something that’s used to help one achieve something, whether it be finding love or being more confident, for example. It could be used through the means of will power, spells and potions, prayer, or whatever means one may use.
On another note, magick can also be the forces of which we don’t quite understand. For instance, certain things years ago were blamed on magick, while today they have a scientific explanation.
I personally believe that magick is something that makes everything around us work, as well as what many of us may use for assistance for some things. For me, magick has so many definitions that ring true.
